List controls not refreshing in UpdatePanels

I'm trying to figure out why when I click Remove on any listbox the postback doesn't refresh the listbox to show the change. I thought that every updatepanel refreshes. If this is so, then why isn't my listbox automatically reloading the updated list after I remove an item? I end up having to refresh the whole page manually in order to see any removed items from my listboxes

Hello,

How do you get the data into the listbox? Try this:
for example the list box inside this updatePanel

<asp:updatepanel id="CuentUpdatePanel" runat="server">
<contenttemplate>
<asp:listbox id="lbCuent" runat="server" width="214px" /><br />
</contenttemplate>
</asp:updatepanel>

After you click Remove, for sure you have to call a function right? In that function, also call: CuentUpdatePanel.Update()
This will update the UpdatePanel ... and if your list box uses a ObjectDataSource ... example below

<asp:updatepanel id="CuentUpdatePanel" runat="server">
<contenttemplate>
<asp:listbox id="lbCuent" runat="server" DataSourceID="GetListITems" width="214px" /><br />
</contenttemplate>
</asp:updatepanel>

then in your function, you do this: lbCuent.Databind();

Hope it helps ... by the way, next time don't bother post all of your HTML in here, too much, waste your time. =) just the part that you have problem is enough already ... and the code behind that is related to it ... Cheers

The problem is that I didn't rebind my listbox after whatever event (insert, delete, etc.)

I didn't even have to call the .Update() manually, it all works fine now after the obvious missing rebind of my listbox controls

List of UpdatePanels on client side

Is there a way of getting a list of updatepanels in clientside script? If so, is there a way to figure out which one(s) are performing updates?

You can look at Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance()._updatePanelIDs. It's an array of UpdatePanel IDs on the page.

Only one panel can be in async postback at a time, so you could maintain a variable referencing the currently updating panel (if any), by setting and clearing it in BeginRequest and EndRequest.

fantastic. I appreciate the help

ListSearchExtender caused 2 postbacks instead of one

When I change selected item in DropDownList, then begins asynchronous postback and some UpdatePanels are reloading. I put one break point in the Page_load event. This break point activated once for each time when I changed selection in the DropDownList. So everything was ok.

 <asp:DropDownList ID="ddl_otdel" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataTextField="otdel_name" DataValueField="id" OnDataBound="ddl_otdel_DataBound" OnSelectedIndexChanged="ddl_otdel_SelectedIndexChanged" />  <%-- <ajax:ListSearchExtender ID="listSearch_ddl_otdel" runat="server" TargetControlID="ddl_otdel" PromptCssClass="ListSearchExtenderPrompt" PromptText="Введите начало строки..." > </ajax:ListSearchExtender> --%>
After that I decided to use ListSearchExtender with my DropDownList. Since that moment my break point (in Page_load) began to activate twice for each time when I changed selection in the DropDownList. When I commented ListSearchExtender then everything became ok. Why there are 2 asynchronous postback instead of one?

May be my question isn't correct. Maybe I don't understand many things. But there is a problem that in some conditions ObjectDataSource executes SelectMethod when it's not necessary and page is going through server-cycle twice during one postback.
