It sounds like you're looking to create a mix of several of our extenders. I'd recommend looking at something like Accordion or Rating controls because they show how you can write a server control that automatically hooks up an extender. You should be able to write a custom control that renders the way you want and automatically applies the appropriate extenders to do collapsing, shadowing, etc., since those are already included in the Toolkit.
